Paddle integration

Paddle failed payments, recovered before the subscription ends

Paddle failed payments are renewal charges that Paddle could not collect, which put the subscription into past due status. RevRescue connects to Paddle through an app connection, tracks every past due subscription, coordinates retries with the decline reason and payday in mind, and reaches the customer in your product, by email and by SMS with a one-click card update.

How Paddle handles a failed renewal

Paddle acts as merchant of record, which means it sells to your customers on your behalf and handles tax and payments. When a renewal charge fails, the subscription moves to past due and Paddle runs its own payment recovery, retrying the charge and emailing the customer over a recovery window before the subscription is canceled or paused according to your settings.

That built-in recovery is useful, and RevRescue is designed to work with it rather than against it. What it does not cover is everything that happens inside your product and your team. Your app keeps showing a normal screen to a customer whose payment failed, your account managers are not told when a large customer slips into past due, and you have no running total of revenue at risk across Paddle and any other billing system you use.

What RevRescue adds to Paddle dunning

  • An in-app banner. Logged-in users on a past due subscription see a short notice with an update link, often the fastest channel for B2B software because the user is already in your product.
  • Timing that follows the decline. RevRescue reads the decline reason and schedules its own steps around it. Where you let RevRescue own retries, it picks each attempt by card type, issuer, payday and time zone, inside network limits. See smart payment retries.
  • SMS only with consent. Texts go only to your own customers who opted in, with opt-out in every message.
  • Hand-off for valuable accounts. Above a threshold you set, a past due account becomes a task for its owner in HubSpot, Pipedrive or Salesforce.
  • Pre-expiry reminders. Customers whose card expires before the next renewal hear from you a few weeks ahead, as explained on card account updater.
  • One dashboard. The Revenue at Risk dashboard lists every past due Paddle subscription with value, reason and next step.

Who owns retries, Paddle or RevRescue

Two systems retrying the same card on their own schedules is a bad idea. It burns attempts, annoys issuers and can count against card network retry limits. When you connect Paddle, you choose one of two modes in your workspace.

Who owns retries, Paddle or RevRescue
Mode Retries Messages and hand-off
Paddle owns retries Paddle recovery schedule RevRescue adds in-app banner, SMS, CRM tasks and reporting, timed around Paddle attempts
RevRescue owns retries Timed per decline, card, issuer and payday Full RevRescue sequence on all channels

More than failed payments

The same connection lets Leak Scan look for revenue leakage in your Paddle catalogue and subscriptions, such as discounts that should have ended, price rises never applied to older customers, or seat counts that no longer match usage. Customers who left after failed payments can be reached later with win-back campaigns.

Pricing is flat by MRR band, from 99 USD a month or 49 USD a month billed yearly, and never a share of recovered revenue. Details on pricing, and a free one-time recovery estimate on the homepage.

Frequently asked questions

Does Paddle retry failed payments automatically?

Yes. Paddle runs its own payment recovery for past due subscriptions. RevRescue can work alongside it or own retry timing, depending on the mode you choose.

What happens to a Paddle subscription after failed payments?

It moves to past due, and if recovery does not succeed it is canceled or paused according to your settings.

Why add an in-app message if Paddle already emails customers?

Billing emails are easy to miss. A banner inside your product reaches the user at the moment they are working, which tends to get cards updated faster.

Does RevRescue replace Paddle as merchant of record?

No. Paddle stays your merchant of record and keeps handling tax and payments. RevRescue only acts on recovery, follow-up and reporting.

Can I use Paddle and Stripe together?

Yes. One workspace can connect several billing systems and shows all revenue at risk in one place.
